Aol has a page where you can pick your charity organization
to donate through which is important because all organizations are different and have very varied percentages which actually go to the people who really need it. Many of them have websites that list what goes to what.....I guess you could call it their "efficiency" rating. Some of these organizations are very politically-slanted as well. Just try to make your best personal decision and go for it. I'm going through a Catholic missionary organization which I know a good deal about. God Bless your compassion and generosity fellas. Amazon. Com
If you go to Amazon.com you can donate to the American Red +. The say 100% of the money will get to the red cross and you can get a receipt0 -
We're part of a local community fund
They came out with a list of people they think are excellent places to donate to. We chose Oxfam, a British emergecy response group, and Doctors Without Borders.
I wish I know how to get them one thing they really need. They probably need a few hundred skids with a diesel generator, punps and high flow UV water sterilizer on them, strapped solid and ready to hang off the bottom of a helicopter. Drop them anywhere, feed them fuel and any water you have and have safe water running in 15 minutes. Probably the single most inportant thing to help manage the risk of epidemics. If I had a magic wand, that's what I would contribute.

Red Cross, Doctors w/o Borders, Catholic Relief, OxFam, UNICEF
All reliable (not an exhaustive list).0 -
Tsunami
I always give to the charities with the least administrative costs. More money goes to the intended rather than salaries or office furniture. WorldVision's costs are next to nothing as are Catholic Relief Services. The International Red Cross are also deserving although their costs are higher.0 -
you are absolutely correct
I usually try to mention a variety so people won't think I'm only promoting the Catholic one0
