What are the pros and cons of a tankless water heater? Will have have enough hot water to take a shower and run the washing machine? Or will one area be neglected?

This is from a homeowner.
There are models with 1/2 inch water supply line that are good for one major and one minor appliance. The models with 3/4 inch supply are good for two major appliances. Look at Bosch and Rinnai. Look at the flue specs and make sure you have the them. Make sure you have the right gas volume and gas pressure that is needed for your unit.
Pros- you won't run out of hot water. It will only use fuel when you call for hot water. Since they are wall hung they take less space.
Cons- If the unit is far from the point of use it will take longer for the hot water to get there. You waste water waiting for it to get to the shower head. When you turn it on and off you will have cold plugs. You wind up taking longer showers because the hot water does not run out.
I have mine for two years and so far so good. If it does not give me any problems in the future I'll be happy. I'm expecting it to last me at least ten years without any major problems.
I'm sure others will add to this. Hope this helps. Jim0 -

Are return pumps used on them? Or can it be done with the right piping arrangement and check valves?0
