radiant design / heat loss

how do you figure the loss for a basement slab on solid rock, monolithic footings with slab poured directly onto footings, no edge insulation, underslab was supposedly installed??? this was tubed by the cement finisher, 1/2 non-barrier pipe, 12 in. o.c. no zoning possible. the vertical edge exposed to the air is 15-18 in. with the slab hanging out there also. trying to pick up the pieces and finish the project. thanks for your inputs, also the house will have a high water table, it sits above the lake. the cement finisher claims to have installed r-10 complete underslab and vertical edge.the vertical edge is on the inside of the footer and the slab in poured over the top of the footing, this sounds like a loss, maybe do floor warming with runtal for actual heating load, marc

Most all radiant software
will allow you to calc without edge or underslab insulation. Some programs will actually spit out the heatloss number for just that uninsulated edge.
It may still be plenty "heatable" not all the missing insulation on you bid. The hit will be in the fuel consumption.
Any way at all to get some edge insulation installed?

The basement calculator
in Siggys HDS is helpful for this calculation.
Still trying to figure out how to post directly from the HDS program. stand by

That's one of the shortcomings of the HDS, no options for saving in different file formats. Print screen didn't work, as you probably know. Maybe you can talk with Mario about this.

What HR was trying to demonstrate...
graphically speaking.
He'll get these new fangle comfusers down pat eventually. It's only taking me 20+ years, aand I still don't know squat. Just enough to be DANGEROUS.

i erased a post instead of posting on this topic
i type slow, and i had to dash out the door...it had way too much info in it any way. the gist was .isolate the system from Your work. run some additional heat lines to the area . and require insulation and watterproofing be placed vertically around the slab and make sure you put abit of drainage around and away from the SOG...with some insulation at a angle off the horizontal around the perimiter.oh and make sure you Get the hepex or rahau o barrier pipe in the rest of the system you install done correctly ...0 -
going to abandon the tubing in the slab
the wirsbo heat loss says there is an additional 107,000 per hr. downward loss, hard to justify the fuel consumption. will most likely rough in for runtal to meet the heating load and then give the owner the option for possible floor warming. the icing on the cake is the original installer is the brother in law. thanks for your advice. marc0
