Taco ESP Zonevalves lacking ESP?

Has anybody experienced trouble with Taco ESP valves?
I replaced a head on one zone after less than six months and the same head failed again after less than a year. This valve is controlling a reset infloor zone and I suspect that after a prolonged on period it simply will not close. I also had one on a indirect that failed after six months. no long on periods there, though.

some ......
of the older ones 2-6 out of a hundred failed in less than4-5 years,.........of the new ones.........zero out of a hundred in the last year or so.i just put the new head on the zone valve and go with it....0 -
Make sure new valves
are a -2 version and not a -1. The revised -2 version have had very few problems.0 -
ESP zonevalve
OK.... where to begin? The ESP zonevalve when first introduced had some compatibility issues with different thermostats, so Taco deleveloped a thermostat compatibility guide to help prevent problems in the field. It was discovered that the combined output of multiple thermostats (power stealing or cool anticipator) on a single transformer was creating enough noise in the line to deliver a false call to the ESP valve causing it to open, or close slightly. In most cases the ESP zonevalve worked great, and was still the most intelligent zonevlave on the market, but Taco wanted to elminate any potential problems, so Taco made it smarter, faster, and easier to work. Taco, had voluntarily replaced all ESP zonevalves with the new generation-2 valve that is fully compatible with all thermostats no matter the type. No more resistors or long delays as the capacitor charges. The New dual capacitor system improves response time and torque rate, making the valve suitable for more applications such as indirect hot water heaters. Additionally, the normally open/normally closed slide switch was eliminated to stop the confusion in the field and having it accidentally switched to the wrong position. This is how you can quickly identify the valve you have. If you have the slide switch on the side of the black actuator, and you are experiencing problems, then you can take the actuator off with a ¼ turn, and return it to your local supply house for an even exchange for the latest generation actuator.

Taco ESP valves made this freight train take a dirt road. The guys from Taco came to town and were patting themselves on the back for fixing the problems with the ESP's last year. so i decided to try them. Huge mistake. out of 6 valves 3 failed in 2 weeks. so the supply house swapped me out all 6. out of those 2 more failed. Now.....some might say " oh, you installed them wrong, you got them too hot, you did this you did that....." no. after unsweating them and removing them the supply house head honcho looked them over and commented on how he had thought i had melted the liners on the ball valves but now having seen them was glad he hadn't said anything. So.....i ate the price of those valves and went to the old reliable white rogers 1361's. no more problems no complaints and thankfully the home owner is still a customer. as triumph the comic dog would say.... "ESP's are good.......for me to poop on!!"0 -
Stew as a trainer I am curious
what exactly was happening with what I assume are the new -2 version of ESP. Most of the reports I have been getting from everyone is that the new ones are trouble free. Thanks for any info you can give.0
