outdoor reset

What it will do is raise or lower the supply temp of your boiler in anticipation of what temperature will best match the heat loss of your home based on what the temperature is outside. It makes for a far more comfortable and quieter system (minimizes expansion noises) and it also saves you fuel.

outdoor reset
OK help me understand. I have a W.M. Gold 80% boiler with beseboard heat. Will something along the line of a Tekmar 263 with outdoor reset be beneficial. Im in the southwest so temperature fluctuates frequently, one day 10degrees the next40.Obviously the controller doesnt modulate the gas or does it? Im guessing it works off supply and return temps, correct? If so, will the aquastat be set for design temp? Thanks0 -
Outdoor Reset
There are other units out there that are more cost effective than the Tekmar. The Beckett Heat Manager is a good control, there are also simpler outdoor reset controls made by companies like Taco and Argo. If you have one boiler the best Tekmar control for that application is a 256.0 -
Don...
the Heat Manager doesn't do reset!
The 260 would be the best match (as long as the Boiler that was refered to is an On/Off Boiler, rather than Modulating) as it also operates the boiler pump and one would gain Purging, Warm Weather Shut Down and Exercising on this Pump. The 256 does not operate the boiler pump and it would have to be brought on via a Relay when ever there is a call for heat in the building and not connected to the boiler, as this is known to result in boiler short cycling.
Reset is always beneficial for both, Energy Savings and Increased Comfort Level.
Visit www.tekmarcontrols.com or call 250-545-7749 for more information.
Happy New Year.

Hi Mike,
I understand that the Heat Manager does not use reset. It simply lowers the low limit based on how fast the temperature in the header drops. The thing I like about the heat manager is that it takes into account indoor conditions, not just outdoor conditions.
I have no problem with Tekmar, I specify them on all of my multiple boiler installs. If you do have one boiler and the goal is to produce fuel savings the Heat Manager is a good option.0 -
what did i miss here?
what did i miss here in the above message?
i know that even a tekmar 256 looks at the indoor (supply) temp AND the outdoor. the heat-manager (last i looked) only looks at the supply pipe. no?

That is correct SS. I believe the original post was looking for a way to reduce fuel consumption. Both the Tekmar and the Heat Manager will do that they just do it using a different philosophy.0
