Very open-ended
There are basements, and ther are BASEMENTS. Which is it?0 -
It is a 25 x 40 x 8 ft high basement with 3/4 of the wall below grade. I am looking to heat two thirds of it, the rest is the boiler area.0 -

Basement Heat
When ever you extend an existing heating system. It is easiest to extend it with the same style of heating.
Is the existing system cast iron, baseboard or radiant?
What is the max operating temperature"
How is the existing system piped? Reverse return, monoflow, loop?
And do you want the basement to operate as an independent zone?
The answers to these questions will help to decide how to proceed.

When I upgraded my system I set aside a zone for the basement. It (basement zone) was not installed then because the basement needed work. It is a loop system and I have baserays on my other zones.
I am very happy with the baserays on the other floors but I just wanted to know what other choices I have considering its a basement. The baserays are a bit pricey to put in the basement. My other choice is the slant fin baseboard.
Sooooo my question is -- What would you use to heat the basement?

Type of Rads
I'm not familiar with the baseray rads you are talking about.
To mix and match rads can be tricky. You need to know the design temperature the baserays are designed to operate at. Slant Fin like to be hot about 180 deg F. The best thing would be to check the manufacturer's web site and compare performance charts. You will need these anyway to size the rads for the basement. Your boiler high limit setting will also tell you the max output your getting now.
So long as you system is generating hot enough water the Slant Fin will work. If they are operating on an independent zone then the zone should be comfortable. Mixing different types of rads in a single zone is asking for trouble.

Buderus Panel rads
as a seperate zone.
The kids can bounce balls off them all day. Try that with copper finned tube.

Base Board
First you need a proper heat loss, this will give you the btu's needed for the area and zones.0 -
Not much heat
is usually needed for a basement that's well insulated and below grade. I'd stick with cast iron BB, I don't think you would need much. Slant fin also offers rhino-cast and Weil-mclain offers CI baseboard also.0 -
S Mline
good idea. I have used the buderus panel rads in a lot of basements. The people love them and they make the room very comfortable.0 -
Radiant!
floor, ceiling, or walls
hot rod
