Has anyone else had problems. Put an Ultra 155 in./ Started the project last march (construction delays) Anyways got system running in sept, just recently returned to start final loops and found heat exchanger plugs leaking. These where aluminum plugs, Weil-Mclain now has a kit of 14 stainless plugs. I understand they have changed over to the ss in production, but if you have some units made earlier you may want to check them.

Suggest cleaning and treating this system
These new boilers need TLC and our two products can provide the protection. Check us out on www.rhomarwater.com under Hydronic products.
We are planning some contractor classes in Chicago next year on just this subject. Also we will be doing a class at the RadFest in Denver in April. Cleaning and treating these new systems is here to stay and will prevent future troubles of a chemistry nature. The cast iron mentality does not work well in these new systems.
I am also available at 800-543-5975 weekdays central time.0 -
So your suggesting....
that water quality is the problem with the plugs leaking????

Not at this time
although we would be happy to test the fill water and the system flush for free. Just send a bottle of each to us (about 8 oz). Those water bottles from a gas station are perfect for this.
pH could be a problem as Aluminum has some unique properties and the water it comes into contact needs to be between 8 and 9 pH.
Cast iron boiler care will not work in these situations and could cause severe damage. My suggestion is why take a chance and also why not keep the system working at top efficiency to enable the homeowner to enjoy the lowest heating bill possible. This alone will more than pay for cleaning and treatment. It will also reduce repair bills and down time. Both, in the customer's best interest.
I will try to answer any further questions.0 -
Another problem area is glycol in these systems.
The Noble Company has a full page ad in the latest PM Engineer about their special AL safe glycol.
The bottom line is these new boilers are going to force designers and contractors to think before they act. "I did not know that is not going to get it". Informed decisions will be necessary to prevent major mistakes from happening in these installations. Water chemistry problems can be prevented and we will help any body who calls us with questions.
The competent contractor will earn his client's trust and eventually live off referral business which is the easiest business road to travel. It also is in the best interest of the customer.
It is obvious that this Wall community is populated with contractors that go the extra mile to do the right thing.
Rhomar is more than willing to help in this water chemistry area.0
