Electro-Zone

Had a service call today, no heat, I found a 2-zone electro-zone setup. Zone 1 was fine but zone 2 would not make the pump or x1-x2 unless I tapped the control with a screwdriver. I read this is a DC voltage control? That true? It would make sense since there were 2 DPDT relays that the t-stats were switching, wired in series with the electro-zone valves. This is a millivolt boiler, I'm going to take out the elctrozone and replace it with 2 honeywell 24V ac valves and a RA889A switching relay, sound right? Should work good any input would be helpful.
Thank You

    Sounds right

as long as you add a 24 volt 40va transformer to control the valves. An RA832 would work fine also.

    Electro Zone...20 V DC system

Had a similar problem with my system, the problem turned out to be the DPDT relay. Thermostat is in series with zone valve and the relay coil.Current draw for this type of sytem when thermostat closes in one zone is 1.3A DC,any series resistance can be big problem, like incorrect heat anticipator setting, which was the problem in my case. Interested in your proposed solution ,are the AC systems inherently better than the DC Electro Zone systems?
