Something off the wall (in a sense)...

It's a steam vent. Why it's there is beyond my meager knowledge.

Whaddaellisdis?
So I'm walking to my haircut a few months back, I like to let it grow, as long as I still have it, and I noticed this thing poking out of the side of the stairs on one of neighborhood buildings... All these buildings are old (1860's and up) and are cast iron facades, all of which I think is irrelevent to this thread, but hey, you never know...
Wanting to be a bit respectful for the relatives this holiday eve, I went to get my haircut and remembered to bring the camera.
So what do you think? Knucklehead or pioneer snowmelt?

Sure looks like a stair melting system to me.
Nice craftsmanship.
Probably a valve inside to activate the system.0 -
New York bag lady hooked it up for night operation:)
