propane tank gelling

The temp dropped to -5 degrees last night. The heater stopped working around 4 am. The gauge on the 500 gal tak reads 40%. Is it possible the propane gelled or has the furnace gone out? If the propane has gelled, how can we fix it?

    Propane

More than likley your propane regulator has frozen up, what kind of furnace do you have does it have a standing pilot or does it light itself each time it comes on?

Try this put a 100 watt buld above the valve ...

on an extention cord LP falls down so put a little shed roof to defray snow or rain or sleet or hail..the heat from the light bulb will help keep the temp up in the vicinity of the regulator...unplug the light before filling from the outdoorwall outlet.... i never really had problems untl after 60 below with propane ranges or on demand water heaters.....

    also

I would also recommend you have your supplier come in and replace the regulator and methanol your tank. They generally supply the regulator's and it will save you the headaches...

    It is working once again!!

Thanks to all who responded to the situation! The light bulb did the trick. It took several hours but the heat kicked back on! Thanks again, we hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas, we have, and a Happy New Year!

Thats Great! Nothing like heat eroops warmth at Christmas

do me one huge favor, make sure that the cover is able to withstand some neglect....sometimes for want of some ply wood "Roof", people have used thick cloth hooked on two 16 d nails with a metal hanger or something crafty...thats ok.buh it has a bit of livin dangerous and id want you to be safe as well as warm. God bless and may you all enjoy the holidays. *~/:)
