It goes like this:
cut-in = cut-out plus differencial.
Sound familiar? This is an encription on the Honeywell Pressuretrol swith for steam sys. WHAT DOES IT MEAN!??
Better yet is there anyone left alive who can solve it.
The DEAD_MEN took the answer to there graves.

I know what cut in and cut out mean, just dont know the proper process to set or adjust.

Depending on the type of Pressuretrol you have the process could be either subtractive or additive. With the PA404 type pressuretrol you only have one visible adjustment screw and scale on the cover of the control. That scale is labeled "Cut-In". Inside the control is an adjustable round dial with numbers on it. This is the "Differential" adjustment dial. The unknown with this type of control is the "Cut-Out" value and this is determined by adding the "Cut-In" and the "Differential" values together. Cut-In is the lowest operating range that the boiler wants to operate with while running and differential is the range of pressure that you would desire the boiler to stay on for to achieve the highest desired pressure or Cut-Out. Once the Cut-Out pressure is achieved the burner shuts off and the pressure will drop until it approaches the Cut-In pressure again or the Differential setting. If you want a Cut-Out of 2# then set the Cut-In for 1/2# and the Differential for 1-1/2# and you will achieve it.

If you have an L404 type pressuretrol there are two adjustment screws and scales on the front of the control. Generally the one on the right is the Cut-Out or High Limit pressure and the one on the left is the Differential value. With this control the unknown value is the "Cut-In" value and it is determined by subtracting the "Differential" from the "Cut-Out" setting. In this case if you want a Cut-Out of 2# set the Cut-Out for 2#, the "Differential" to 1-1/2# and the "Cut-Out" will be 1/2# by subtraction. See its not too bad....just a little confusing though! Hope this helps.
