Radiator and valve hookup problems

Today I had to remove a radiator to lay new carpet.
In doing so the nut which connects the radiator to the shutoff valve split into two pieces.
Now I have also noticed the shutoff valve opening is oblong.
I know I will have to replace the valve.
I also noticed the nipple going into the radiator is oblong in shape. My question is, "Is the nipple going into the radiator removable, and if so how do I remove it, or just what do I have to do to make this radiator usable again?" Oh by the way it is a steam one pipe system. 1 1/2" pipe. Thank you for your help. Dallas

oblong valves
Sure it's removeable. When you buy a new valve, it will come with a new spud and nut ( the piece that goes into the radiator). Now that the nut is off, you should be able to turn it out of the radiator (counter-clockwise). Get a big wrench!!! IF it won't budge, you will have to cut it out.If you don't know how to do that, get a pro to help. You can make things worse by ruining the thread in the radiator.
