expansion tank

Can you believe what we found when we arrived to install homeowners new boiler. He had removed the old unit but it was still sitting there with the expansion tank. We found a ball valve between the relief valve and the boiler (closed). He told us the relief valve kept dripping so he installed the valve. Some people have no idea how lucky they are. He must have a guardian angel looking over him. Can you imagine the pressure it took to do this to the tank. He wondered why the old boiler had started leaking!

    Looks like ....

... he almost built himself a water/air-powered torpedo, like the bottle rockets we used to send skyward as kids, only a lot more powerful.

I presume you educated him regarding his close brush with eternity?

    explained it to him

He tryed to tell us he never closed the valve except to install a new relief valve. He wanted us to install a valve between the boiler and the relief on the new one!

    Did you...

.... call up the local Darwin award board for this potential candidate?

Sheesh, he just doesn't get it. I think you need to show him those pictures from last week where a regular water boiler sailed through the roof of the basement and pretty much destroyed a brick rowhouse because it's T&P had been disabled. Sometimes only graphic stuff like that gets it through thick skulls that a safety device exists for a reason.
