Thermostat and short cycling

I have a new Burnham boiler. It was short cycling so the contractor contacted Burnham and got replacement orifices--now the unit runs great except... I have a digital thermostat, when the thermostat kicks on in the morning, the boiler runs great--no short cycling and it heats all the radiators. Then after it reaches the desired temperature, eventually it short cycles (5 mins on 5 mins off) and eventually the larger radiators cool down. I suspect that the thermostat is the problem --that it is overanticipating the heat, and I would be better off letting the thermostat overshoot the desired termperature. I understand on manual thermostats that this is an adjustment of the heat anticipator but on this White Rodgers digital thermostat I can't find such an adjustment. Any ideas would be appreciated. thanks

I urge you to go to

the manufacturer's website and download the destruction manual.

Could be the wrong stat but many can be adjusted to 1 cycle rate pper hour. That would be appropriate for steam or gravity hot water.

Minimally, the stat should not allow more than 2 cycles per hour - and that's too many - but alot better than what you describe now!

    thanks

I found the thermostat user manual on the internet (the previous home owner did not leave it for me) and found that there is an anticipation setting which is factory preset at 5--and is adjustable up to 40. I will try putting it up to 30 and test the effect.

I guess all the time I'm running 5 mins on and 5 mins off I was wasting gas.

    Thanks for your help!

ah yes the "destruction manual" thats the little booklet that comes with all products---we consult the book after instalation -when there is a problem ----see what we screwed up and if we are covered under warranty
