water hammer

Gotta newer Weil McLain with some nasty water hammer.

it's around 200,000 BTU hot water system. extrol tank. 12 psi.

I changed a bad series 100 pump, fired it and heard a little "tink tink" in the pipes (HO says it's always done that). When I bled the rads it sounded like the friggin place was gonna fall down.

It did stop after the thing ran for a while, but I knew it'd come back. HO just called and said the shut the system down...it was just too bad.

in feeling the supply line, which the pump is on (I think, danm I can't exactly remember), I can feel that it goes cold for a few secs, hot, cold...so on and so on.

well, I don't even know where I'm gonna start trying to figure this thing out, So I'd love any advise I can get.
Thanks,
Brian

well its been maybe a couple decades since i have used a

B&G pump however i think they still make them the same way.. there are a couple springs on these pieces that spin around in circles everytime the pumpstarts runs and shuts off they are sorta like a clutch on your car, these things once you are used to the racket they make is easily discernable when your in the prescence of one wrapping out as it were....they are such a nusciance that i gave up on them when i saw my first Grunfoss....oki so they need to be oiled even if they said they were factory lubed...then if one of the pieces on the clutch aint quite right it makes a hell of a racket....
