I have cast iron boiler heat. the previous homeowner installed an air conditioning unit in the attic. the compressor is outside on the side of the house. now that winter is here i have put up plastic on the single pane windows and water peridocially POURS out of one or more of the air conditioning ceiling vents. i have gone into the attic and disconnected the tubing to the vents that most frequently drip. i dont know what is happening and how to fix it. please help

Warm air from the heated rooms is rising into the cool ductwork where it's being cooled below it's dewpoint. When that happens, water condenses inside the ductwork.

You can attempt closing/covering EVERY supply register and return grill but what you probably really need is a heavy dose of insulation and weatherization...

  • this is not a problem to be rectified with insulation especially if the attic is already insulated. Is the attic insulated and how heavily?
