Radiant Controls

but I'd like to change that. From my standpoint one of the most confusing things with radiant is just how to control it. Too many choices.

We have a great opportunity here in that we have a client with a beautiful huge house with cold floors. His LR, DR and kitchen are either over the unheated garage or cantilevered out past the garage. Nice wood, tile and stone floors. Did I mention they're cold? :)

They've lived there 15 years or so saying every year they need to change this. I think they're finaly tired of it. Did I mention they have scorched air otherwise?

They also have what most would call an enclosed porch but it's grander than that. I suspect it was designed as something to contribute solar gain to the house except the sun never shines in upstate NY in the winter. This is essentially a large deck that is enclosed with a lot of glass/plexi. Apparently it stays slightly above freezing as they have plants out there year round but he generally uses some electric heaters to help here. This would be an easy area to add supplemental heat in the form of some fan convecters.

Are there some books or articles that I can study to help me in learning what options are available for controlling radiant? I'd also welcome any suggestions for a project like this.

As far as the scorched air I think we're going to figure on installing a zoning system and put this area on another t-stat so the scorched air will only kick on if the radiant can't keep up.

    tekmar 512 thermostat

Consider using a tekmar 512 thermostat. It can operate two stages of heat plus a sensor can be embedded in the floor to maintain a minimum floor temperature.

For more information, see the tekmar website: www.tekmarcontrols.com and click on products.
