progamable thermostat

With a hydronic heating system, at what low temperature should we set our thermostat on during the day when no one is home to be more cost efficient. If we set is too low, will it cost more to bring temperature back up than if we set it a little higher?

set back
you may get some real disagrements on this, but unless you are gone for more than eight hrs, it isn't worth setting back. There are of course alot of variables on that depending on the efficency of your house and heating system. I just set mine at 70 and leave it alone. We used to use setbacks alot, but to tell the truth, most people either can't program them or don't want to bother. I was just on a no heat call last week. The setback was set to 55 so the stat wasn't calling for heat. The cust was a bit embarrassed. But if you really want to, 5-10 degrees seems to work well. I wouldn't go lower unless you dont't have to worry about freeze-ups.0
