Buderus, flame current

Have been having nuisance outages at the house. First time in 6yrs the boiler has faltered. I've not been diligent in annual cleaning. The G224 I have has a horizontal pilot assembly. After a thorough cleaning of the block/burners and all I looked at the base plate for the pilot assembly and it had a layer of iron oxide (I guess)which was insulating the ground point for the flame current. Cleaned it off and got a good strong signal. I am told by the Buderus folks, who were most helpful to me today, that they have gone to all vertical pilots.

    cleaning and lockouts

When you cleaned the burners, did you wash them out, the double wall burner venturi needs to be washed I think. Also we found that we had to wash out the last heat exchanger to get the build up out, tube brushes would not get it clean enough. Just a little input. Tim

No I did not wash them out

I basically followed the procedure as listed in the service manual which came with the unit. With a brushing and vacuuming the burners were fine and the resulting flame is very good. The boiler sections were not really that dirty either. The service issue was caused by the accumulation of the debris on the horiz surface of the pilot assembly. As you read flame thru the gound the debris got to the point where it decreased the flame current signal to the point It would lock out.
