Main Vent Removal help
Rich Baker
Member Posts: 12
I followed The Wall's advice and purchased two Gorton #2s for my Mains. I had no problem getting the old Gorton #1 (I think it is still working) off of main #2, see old mv gorton #1.jpg and putting on the new Gorton #2, see mv-gorton-#2.jpg. The problem is that I can not get the old vent off of Main #1, see mv-old-line-1.jpg. I tried Liquid Wrench for over an hour, and a pipe wrench, but it just won't budge. Not a lot of room for big leverage, and the last thing I want to do is break something. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Rich

It looks like it should brake loose.
Use two pipe wrenches. One to hold the Tee (as close to the vent as possible) and one turn turn the vent out. If need be, you could put a pipe on the latter wrench for leverage (if you have room and a big enougfh wrench to hold the Tee steady).
Otherwise, there's always heat (red hot vent) or...
