Mian Air Vents

Is is possible to vent the mains in the
middle of the line? On our one-pipe system, the air vents
are placed at the very end of the line. One line is about 30% longer than the other and carries two more radiators. Recently, I noticed two plugs in the first third and
second third portions of the longer line. Could it have been that these once hosted two other air vents? (This line always takes longer to heat than the shorter one.)

    Never heard of

main vents in the middle of a main line. I am just a homeowner so the pros on this site might have heard of it. From what I have gathered on this site and in Dan's books Main vents belong after the last riser off of the main. Getting each main to vent all the air at the same time is a matter of vent sizing. Gorton makes good vents for this.

    Hope this helps.

I've seen it done that way

but I prefer to have all the vents at the end of the main, to make the most of their capacity.

You probably need more venting capacity at the end of that long main. Measure the length and diameter of each main and tell us what vents are on them, and we can tell you what's needed. If it has old (possibly asbestos) insulation, just measure the outside diameter of the insulation, subtract 2-1/4 inches and that's likely your pipe size.
