Why oh why do techs

Lack of understanding how controls work - I guess. Steamer - no heat call. Spaghetti for wiring! 10-Lbs in a 2-Lb junction box. Extra relays not needed that were scabbed into the wiring to relay low/high voltage signals. Coulda used the #67's for both if they'd understood the end switch and lost the jumper!
Three problems to boot: roll-out switch on flue not working & no flue gas roll out - grrrrr; automatic damper not making burner circuit contact; & a feed-water make-up pump DOA.
Just for fun, my meter went haywire in the middle of tracing voltages. Zeroed out initially and stays at zero until you check voltage. Then she simply keeps on climbing up & up & up till volts are off the scale! Had me wondering why I was seeing 220 on a 24-volt gas valve(G)!
New batteries tomorrow & a check to see if low batt created the scenario. Longing for analog days and thermocouples.....

One of those days
I used to keep an anolog meter on the truck just for those occasions, but I gave it to my helper so he could have a trouble free experience while learning how to use a meter. I recently rewired a radiant floor piping panel that had a quagmire of wires and relays. I cut them all out and installed a Taco circ switching board which took up a fraction of the space and looked a lot better. The HO's were very happy and thought me smart when I was in reality just simplifting everyones life. Especially my own. K.I.S.S. WW

E-D-U-C-A-T-I-O-N Dave,
that's why.
Bosses don't believe in it, so why should the help?
Happy Holidays BTW to my favorite scalding elf.0 -
I carry
3 different meters. Simple volt, ohm and amp meters are relatively cheap, when you stop to figure what our time as trouble shooters is worth.0
