Here is some of the last corbond is going in. Note the full-face respirator. The house is pretty evenly split between corbond (for the thin wall sections) and icynene (for the new wall sections and between floors). Cost benefit and all that.

Meanwhile, the barometric damper is...
...usually in this position while the boiler is firing.0 -
Meanwhile, the boiler is being fed...
...via this 18"-high U-shaped air intake. Note how the corebond was applied a bit too liberally around the pipe, pushing it out beyond the extent of the wall studs. Not my choice (I would have preferred a sealed-combustion appliance), but the best we can do with a Vitola + Vitoflame 100.
Next step: Seal the room...0 -
In the other corner...
... we have two Roth oil tanks that happily deliver #2 refined dino juice to the Vitola. Well, at least right up to the point where the insulation installers hit the valves on top of the tanks and shut them off!0 -
So I go into trouble-shooting mode...
Out comes the laptop, the Viessmann PDF files, and a quick education in trouble-shooting the Vitoflame 100. Three resets later and the Vitola is now chugging happily along. However, I will have her examined in the morning anyway. The next time, I think I need to put a big sign over the oil tanks when the Icynene folks come to town.
I hope that the HVAC contractor is OK with me resetting the boiler 3x (the manual says that's OK) rather than having an emergency service call later on in the evening. ;-) Ah yes, the danger of customers that know a little!0 -
There is a small fly in the ointment though...
...with one joint leaking at the back of the boiler. This will be fun to get to considering all the other junk in front of it. Oh well.0 -
And last but not least,
a mystery for the uneducated homeowner, this seems to be some sort of purging device on the cold water supply to the IDWH. Can someone tell me what it's good for?0 -
Constantin.....please tell me
that those pics of the wiring are not a finished product!

Seriously, I suspect, from the bit of conversation we've shared, that Constanin's insatiable curiosity to see "the thing work" caused expediency to trump form. I've seen some photos of his work, and I bet, when finished, that place will look like mission control...

Watts N36
Vacuum Breaker as per Mass Code.
Looks like a tight home Constantin. And I would guess the electrical will be corrected also .

Hee Hee!
Gentlemen, there is a reason I call them progress pics. This is not the finished form by any means... and I haven't worked on any aspect of the heating system other than specifying most of it. As Clint Eastwood would say "a man's gotta know his limitations."
Wiring high-voltage is not my thing, there are many more qualified people who can do a much better job than I in this arena. For your amusement, here is a pic from a boat I rewired myself to give you an idea of the kind of work I can do.
So not to worry, the spaghetti will be vanquished and will be replaced by a neat system of BX ducts like we have seen elsewhere. The current octopus of wiring is simply a crutch until our HVAC guys catch up with their work elsewhere in the system.
My only gripe with this system is the noise... the Grundfos 15-58's are the only thing I can hear in the house these days, even the boiler is mostly silent by comparison. I suppose it might have something to do with the fact that all 15-58's are running on high speed all the time. But their dull roar is somewhat annoying. Once fiber insulation has been added to the inner walls, I doubt that we'll hear these puppies one way or the other.
Many thanks for the kind words, Alex and I'll try to keep updating the pics here... the Vitosol is next...0 -
There are two filters on this system
One filter is at the oil tank (spin-on) and will filter down to X-microns. The second filter is the Viessmann OEM one, which is mounted at the lower-left corner of the Vitola. In the picture above, it is barely visible behind the twin lines supplying oil to the burner.
I happen to think that a proper spin-on filter will do a lot more than a see-thu thingie, but the nice thing about the Viessmann filter is that you can see into it and hence figure out if the oil has been contaminated with excess sludge, etc.
On the flip-side, our spin-on filter has a built-in pressure meter that measures how clogged the filter is - a very elegant way to infer that which cannot be seen.0 -
Thanks Gentlemen!
The wall is all about learning and I really appreciate it!0
