two meters

could someone explain to me why I have two meters on my house.....both seem to be industrial sized...my total btu load is a lttle over 3mm btus...does each meter cap out at 1.5mm btus...john

What do you have for equipment in the
house? What are the sizes of the meters? It will be somewhere on the meter.
Many times there could be a split load. One meter for part of the system the other meter for a seperate section. Seperate piping the outlets would not be tied together.
Another reason is so that the load will not be interrupted when changing a meter, as the load can be shifted to the other meter.
Was this perhaps at one time two seperate customers or has it always been a single family dwelling.

may be your home was a duplex at one time.

If this means 300,000 btu load than the typical gas meter is an AL 250 or about 250,000 so perhaps that's why. It would not be legal in my state to put in 2 parallel meters. I think you have a system set up for a duplex, in which case you are paying a meter charge you don't have to pay. If it's just you have a plummer connect the outlets and get rid of one of the meters. you may want to shut them off one at a time to see what they feed.0
