    Best Thermostat - Steam

For simplicity and reliability, I prefer the Honeywell Round, with adjustable anticipation.

You can up date it with...

the new FocusPro, set it for 1 cycle/hour, choose from either the large screen or standard screen. Non programmable, mercury-free, +-1 degree accurate. Battery-powered for wide compatibility. 2-4 button operation. Available from any Honeywell distributor or heating pro.

Dear Bill - What about the "the round" type but ditgital? It doesn't need batteries, Hg free, etc. It looks like you use dip switches to set the cycles. Any thoughts? Thanks!

    Steam thermostat

I have used a White Rodgers computer type thermostat on my home that has a wide differential range adjustment. As it comes from the factory it has a very short cycle, as for forced air. But it can be set for a very long cycle, if you wish.

The T8775 Electronic Round would be my second choice...

with steam, since some steam systems shut down power entirely during the Off cycle, and the T8775 is a power-stealing unit. If there is voltage it will work; pricewise, it's a bit more expensive than the FocusPro. The FocusPro uses regular AAA batteries, and they last at least a year, and give about a 6 week visual warning before depleting.

    I agree ...

The honeywell ROUND works best. I tried the dig's...and the Focus Pro. Worked TERRIBLY on my system...Sorry Bill!! But the old-fashioned Round works like a CHARM!! Especially on the millivolt I have!

can someone explain the 1 cycle per hour?

i have a honewell box type thermostat with the coil inside that you can make it kick off the heat before it gets to the set temp so it gives time for the heat to radiate.

do i have to be concerned about this 1 cycle per hour? is it already built in? is there some way i can check? i have a 1 pipe steam system........
