Virus Warning...............................(Starch)

.....that one of my office computers was infected with a Trojan type virus. Apparently this machine's Norton failed to automatically update itself, even though it is supposed to on a regular basis.

I "cleaned" my entire network, and made sure all machines are up to date with virus definitions, so it should be ok now.

What clued me in was several "failed email send attempts" that showed up in my email program, which I never sent.

I hope that this has not caused anyone here a problem. Please accept my sincerest apologies if your computers were affected by this.

I'd love to get 20 minutes alone in a room with one of these jerks who write these viruses!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got back from NJ and PA last night and found over 75 messages saying the same thing "Undeliverable" that were sent in a 45 minute period. This stuff gets old real quick!

    20 minutes?

That's too quick & easy! I'd like about 20 days.

Don't know why, but the number of virus-laden e-mails increased dramatically over the past few weeks. It's not uncommon for McCaffee to quarantene 20 to 40 per day. Spam's up too. Stay off-line for a day & there's more than 100 quarantened!

I say when we catch spammers and virus makers that we superglue all their fingers together!
  • I think

that a more fitting punishment would be to put their tongue on a freezing metal fence post and then superglue their fingers! Ouch!

    I'd prefer...

...to revoke their reproductive rights until they show that they can become a responsible citizen. In the meantime, their time would have to be consumed 100% to assist folks dealing with virus infections from others.

    Well.....

If they had their you-know-what cut off and attached to their foreheads, everyone would immediately recognize them for the d%#!-heads they are!

    Install A2 Free Removes Trojans

This is a link to the A2 Free. A2 Free is on the bottom of the home page. It is a program that removes Malware (A generic tern for Trojans, wormware etc.) It works great. Be sure to run the update after installing.

    Hey Starch,

are you running XP (probably a rhetorical question)? I found out that for Norton's auto update to work, you have to create a password for your computer login name, then you have to go to the scheduled tasks folder (located in system tools), click on the auto update task, and enter that same password in the appropriate spot.

    Better yet,

glue their fingers to their keyboards, to those rarly used keys, then they can't ever write a virus again, and you'll know who they are when they walk around town.

    Thanks Bruce

I tried a2free on a computer I'm working on, and it worked great. Note that it takes a while to load the signature files when starting up.
