Broomell System Boiler Replacement

Q:What should I do with the old reciever if the customer wants to modernize systems.

Q:What should I do with old Ceiling Radiator and draft connection to old chimney? Chimney will be relined.

Q:When replacing old wet return will there be a problem if I lower it (the new boiler will be lower to the ground and the old wet return will become dry).

Q:What critical water levels should I note and why?

    What I'd do

leave the regulator in place as it serves as a 7-ounce (non-ASME) safety valve, and is also the venting port for the entire system.

If you leave the condensing radiator in place, you can continue to use the chimney vent. The reason they vented it this way was to take advantage of the slight natural vacuum produced by chimney draft, helping to pull air from the system.

If the lining technique won't accept the chimney vent, you cna install a Gorton #2 on the condensing radiator.

Lowering the wet return is the right thing to do in this case. Try to set the boiler up as far as practical so the waterline is close to that of the old boiler. If you can do this, you may not need to repipe the returns.
