    protect your family

check the phone book and call a plumber. GAS is not for hobbyists.

    Remote

almost all fireplaces with a remote have an alternative way of overiding the remote to turn the unit on. Will it operate if you do this?

if so the remote or receiver are at fault.

If not then there is something wrong with the operator (valve/control assembly) many are powerpile, some are hydrolic so I cannot comment.

If it is a CFM / Vermont Castings unit, check the antennae (6" dead ended wire whip). It will not operate if it touches ANYTHING! Make sure it is clear.

Otherwise call in a pro. Gas fireplaces can be tricky, and are definitely a pain in the keishter.

    Good advice so far

I might add that some if not all of the new fireplaces have a thermocouple and a powerpile to the same valve, you powerpile could be dead. Some remote recievers also need a battery unless it's the plug in type. all the remote does is close the thermostat tt connections. Your service person can quickly check it. Also, did you mess with the glass, often there's a high limit and a glass removed safety tucked away somewhere. These are more complex than they first appear.
