a good idea?????
We installed a new boiler for a very nice man that found our ad here on the F.A.P page.
The old boiler (only about 15) had been leaking above the water line, probaly from day one.
Anyway, we sized the new one according to EDR and ended up being several boiler sizes smaller than what was there.(WM-EGH-105 existing, EG-65 for replacement. BIG difference!)
We use the water feeders with the digital display of gallon used, and afetr a few weeks I get a call that 145 gallons of water have been added to the system!!!!!
This system originally had its' condensate lines ABOVE ground, running across the floor. Someone decided years ago to bury the returns and run them back in.....................copper.
I replaced a 1" return with iron pipe and kept it above ground. Now, 3 weeks later, 33 gallons have been added. You think I still have another leaky underground return?
Two more to go!
Ah well...........if it was easy, anyone could do it!

Start digging
and change both old returns. Bet you find they're both toast.

I gave the customer
YOUR home phone number! Told him you were THE BEST at digging up old buried returns and now he's calling you!!!!!
Kidding of course!
Yah, I know Frank.
I could justify tyhis in my head if the returns were original, but they were replaced maybe 20,30 years ago. And the basement was never finished like a part of the home. I guess they just got tired of tripping on the pipes?
From an old Pink Floyd song, "Wish you were here"........
Then you could dig it up!
Did I tell you about the cast baseboard that was added in this house? 25 linear feet of Baseray, CONTINUOUS! With 3/4" copper feeding it. "If it weren't for back-pitch, it'd have no pitch at all..........gloom, despair, and NO HEAT for me!" (Childhood memory......HeeHaw)
