You had an Application with a Wood Boiler and Gas Boiler tied together in a system. I just finished working on a system that could be similar to the one you had at the time, with the exception being that I have a Solar Storage Tank instead of a Wood Boiler Storage Tank. But I think the same logic and piping arrangement should work.
Please have a look at the attached and let me know what you think. This was just another one of those little jobs I can't forget about until I got a solution that fits both, the budget and application.
Thanks,
Mike

Nice, but why
The 3 way motorized (V1) on the solar panel?

The Idea was...
to allow for constant circulation. This particular customer was concerned about Sensor placement on the Solar Panel. He felt that unless there was flow through the collector, he may not be able to read the proper solar panel temperature at all times. The Solar Collector had no place to put a Sensor in.

Interesting
I have always strapped the sensor on the panel output pipe with a stainless hose clamp and insulation over that. Never had a problem.
Seems like a constant circ pump, at 80 watts draw, defeats the "solar energy" freebie to some degree
I did just call and order a 155 from KC. I've been a diehard Goldline delta control guy. Sounds like Graingers is purging them from the system.
Your 155 is a bit $$ier, but the digital display and other features look enticing.
Thanks for sharing all you designs and ideas. Give Steffens suspenders a snap for me

You know....
I never had a problem with the sensor strapped to the outlet either, but the customer didn't think it would work for him and the customer is always right. I'll always give the customer what he asks for if it isn't compromising the performance.
I'll snap Steffens Suspenders and make sure he knows it's from you
Have a great Christmas Holiday.

Lower wattage pumps for constant circ.
Check out the pumps from Laing. WWW.Lainginc.com
Their SM-303-B is an AC pump that draws about 30 watts and their Ecocirc series of DC pumps draw between 4 watts and 18 watts depending on model. You can even throttle the DC pumps over about a 10:1 range by changing the supply voltage. They have been my favorites for solar and medium flow hydronics for many years.

Grundfos
According to their literature, the Grundfos UP15-10B pumps only draw 25 watts. Less than any other AC circulator I've found.0
