    Is there a standard? - 2 Heat / 2 Cool / 2 Fan

    Hello Guys,

Having been limited to just a number of different thermostats on the market, I was wondering if you may be able to help me understand something.

For thermostats with 2 Stages of Heat, 2 Stages of Cool and maybe even 2 Stages of Fan, what are the standard color codes for those.

I think I understand the single stage deals, but clarification is always better than thinking :).

    Thanks for your help.

I'll take a stab at it....

I'm gonna guess it may partially depend on your local,In these parts usually it's (now this is also dependant on how many wires are run) R-red W1-white W2-brown Y1-yellow Y2-blue G-green C-black.But I've seen many variations in my time....It's not so much the color of the wire as the matching the correct terminals.(Like on VVT or Lennox logic or Trol-o-Temp panels I would run Green and White out of the control transformers instead of Red and White just so I could reference that circuit for example)I will say this....
R(red)is usually hot,G(green)is usually fan & W(white)is usually heat, other than that it's really up two you unless the wireing diagram for the equipment or controls dictate otherwise...:-)

    Thanks Ranger. Muchly appreciated.

I am basically looking what the Industry uses as a standard. I wouldn't even try to believe for a minute that whats shown in a brochure is what is actually practical in the field. At least I don't know anyone of hand who would run looking for a cable that has a violet, purple or even pink wire in it :)

Hoping to get more (different or the same) feedback on this...
