flow control's?

hey all, few questions here.. on a hw system(loop, diverter or gravity). if there are independent zones with pumps and zone valves for each one, is there a need for a flow control? usually, people install them above the zone valve which i can't understand.. once the zone valve closes on the feed side, water will not pass through into the boiler to lose heat? where would a flow check be needed? also, how far of a run can a 007 run on? thanks all.. happy holiday's.. mike

    zone valves for flow control

Using zonevalves for zone control is a nice alternative to flo-checks. Flo-checks prevent migration of hot water in one direction, which does not guarantee induced flow. Using a zone valve will positively stop flow in either direction making that a superior alternative. The Taco 007 will handle a 100,000 BTU boiler with no problem. As for the maximum length of pipe, that is a variable. However, you should be fine with lengths up to approximately 200 lineal ft.
