Burnham Piping Diagrams

If you go to the Burnham web site and look at the piping diagrams there is a link to type "Viewers" that are needed in order to see the diagrams. One viewer is "Whip" and the other is "Volo". Neither of these links point to a currently available viewer. While I appreciate the usefulness of CADCAM viewers I think it would be a lot more helpful if the diagrams were easily viewable without downloading programs that no longer exist and it would be nice if the kind people at Burnham actually looked at their own website. Here is the link at Burnham that I am using: (Why a piping diagram would be named wiring3 is another question)

    Burnham viewer

I found this problem awhile back and emailed them about the issue. No response (I guess I should have emailed it to Glenn directly)... But if you go to the autocad (www.autodesk.com) website you can download the latest version of their viewer called DWF Viewer... Try this link:

I did not contact Burnham directly.

I am of the opinion that if a company is going to have a web site that they and their webmaster should be responsible for the proper operation and maintenance of that web site. Not enough time in a day for me to do supervision of their site. Having said, that I have noticed that some companies do not even respond to inquiries or do not provide a way to contact people at their company. Burnham does list their contact number and an e-mail. If you are going to do something I believe that you should do it right or don't do it at all.

    Websites

I agree, it is big problem within the web industry (being near that industry I encounter it all the time). Like most things in life, many companies were sold on "it's easy to do" so they go out and either create or have someone create a website. But, like a good steam system, it needs maintanence and care. Most companies are too busy to follow up, though I have had great response from some. One even gave me a 10% off certifcate for finding a website problem...

The drawings that are on the web site are all Commercial Installation Application drawings that are in AutoCad Lite format. Over the past 6 years we have used several viewers on the web site to be able to view these on a computer that does not have AutoCad compatibility. It may very well be that the links to the 2 viewer sites have changed or are defunct. I will bring this to the attention of our Burnham Commercial Product people tommorrow.

I will state that all of our web design has been done in house by our own people. Lately, several of those people have been promoted to other positions in the company simply because like many of our people..."they are good at what they do". Other people have taken over the web site responsibilities and may not be aware of the viewer changes because they have been concentrating on getting a lot of the new product information and manuals on the site. I will also state that there is an unbelievable amount of information on the site and for that reason alone, things can sometimes slip through the cracks. Thanks for the heads up and I will relay the comments. Don't count on any web site to be perfect in every aspect though. I do my banking with Sovereign Bank and after six months I still can't transfer money from checking to savings or from savings to checking while online. I've spoken to them about it and nothing has changed. It used to work just fine.

    Thanks Glenn

Having a web site that can easily provide information has to be a plus for both Burnham and its customers.

To get an idea of the amount of work it takes to build this web site and maintain it, take a look at this link to the repair parts portion of the site. Click on any boiler and keep clicking on the related portions of the boiler. Then click on the flyout number for any particular part. Hope this helps.

  • I discussed this today

with the folks in Lancaster. Apparently these free viewers and the companies that offer them keep coming and going and we are looking at doing something different. This will probably involve putting all of the drawings in a format such as .pdf that anyone can view. Be patient because it will take some time.
