Gas heat

Can someone help? I had a new furnace installed about 4 years ago. I went from a oil fired to a gas steam system. I had installed a Burnham model# IN405. When the furnace starts and runs until the house heats up the system runs fine. But when the furnace shuts off it only stays off about 10 seconds, then it fires up again. This happens about 3 or 4 times and then it shuts off for good. Has anyone ever heard of this? Do you know what causes it.I've had 2 plumbers over plus a rep from Burnham and they are not sure. They keep adding this cleaning product Squirk to the boiler to flush out the system, but the problem still occurs, thanks AL

First off Al...
...I am going to assume that you have a mercury thermostat operating the boiler. If this is true,I would check to see if that was the culprit.Second componant to suspect is the pressuretrol.0 -
Stat
If the stat is open then if the pressuretrol was able to start the system something is wrong with the wiring. I think the issue is the heat anticipator set too low. If this is a T87 I would set the anticipator to 1.2 amps and see what happened. I like you thought about a mercury stat and the possibility of vibration jiggling it. One of the few really simple things about a steam system operation is the control circuit.0 -
Yea man...
....that's exactly where I was going with that one Dale.(w/ the thermostat)I've never, ever seen a pressuretrol "bounce" but there's always a first time for everything :-)0 -
Al
Is the boiler equipped with a Honeywell contactor relay on the front jacket panel? If the boiler is only 4 years old it should be equipped with this relay. When the IN series boiler first came out the thermostat was wired in series into the limit-burner circuit. We found a few in the field where the boiler was short cycling due to higher than expected thermostat anticipator circuit draws. We then equipped the boiler with the thermostat wired into the R8222 contactor relay and all has been fine provided the heat anticipator is set for 0.8 amps. Hope this helps.
