Sleeping poorly

At the beginning of last summer I took out all my radiators, cleaned them all out & repainted them. I did not get the system hooked up again until late this fall. At which time I put in new traps and main vents. Now I am getting water hammer and water squirting out the main vents. The noise is so loud it wakes me up and keeps me up. The hammer is so hard that the pipes are shaking. What could be my problem?

water hammer
Ahhh, I also have similiar problem. Hammer and water spews from inline vent in crawl space. Additional radiator was added near spewing vent last year...any help would be muchly appreciated

Pitch
My guess is pitch changed when you removed rads. Or junk got into mains. At vents at least remove and flush returns back to hartford loop bottom, and make sure all main pitches AWAY from boiler to end of dry return.0 -
Re: Pitch
In theory, the pitch did not change any. I did not add any radiators and placed them back into the same locations. In actuallity, the pitch might have changed by a small bit because I just moved the radiators.
The only place I am seeing the spitting is at the main vents. Is it more likely that the issue junk on the main returns from having the system open all summer?0 -
what pressure are you running your system at?0 -
Re: water presure
I run it at the lowest the presuretrol allows. Around 1.5-1.75. I can't be more exact be exact because the presuretrol is not easy to read.0 -
Pitch
If it helps any it is a two pipe system and I have wet returns. As well I have flushed my return piping. I have a gate valve right before the hartford loop and when it is closed I do not have any water hammer. The hammer occurs only when that gate valve is opened.
Does that information help at all?0 -
