Replacement boiler but which one?

I need to replace an old Weil-Mclain EG-45 150K. I was looking at the CGA-5 (140MBH) and Peerless MI-05 (140MBH) which both are less expensive and smaller. My question is, are any of the two a better replacement and which one is best? Should I stick with the same model (EG-45).

Do you actually need 140MBH?

Have you done a heatloss calculation or is the heater sized for the EDR of a steam system?

I ask, because most boilers that were installed in older, uninsulated homes are usually hopelessly oversized once the windows and walls in a home have been upgraded. By chosing a boiler that just meets your heating needs on a design day (i.e. the coldest sustained temperature in your area), you end up with a more efficient system.

Plus, since you seem to be using gas a fuel, consider perhaps the usage of a condensing gas boiler? It could save you a lot of money, unless you need to make steam. Just a thought!
