hey all, i have a question about installing a 2nd zone on a hot water system.. i wnat to install a 2nd zone on this system for the basement.. it will be a loop system consisting of 4 radiators.. there is a existing flow check on the system.. the feed cames off the boiler to the bottom of the flow check and then exits the right side to the supply while the left side is plugged.. now can i take the plug out of the left side of the existing, tie into the bottom of the new flow check, plug the right side of it and put a zone vale coming off the left side up to my system? thanks for the advice..

2nd zone
any idea's guy's? thanks0 -
Hi,
I don't think that would be a good idea since the flow would hit the bottom of the flow check weight and probably open it.

what if
right , but what if i put a motorized zone valve coming off the new flow check? the zone valve wont open unless it is called upon.. the only thing i'm concerned about is if both zones are running at the same time.. would that cause a problem? how else would i do it? thanks0 -
simplify
Have your pump on the supply side. A zone valve for each loop on the return. Make sure to put in purge station's for each loop. Also in your cellar zone make sure to put drain station's on each baseboard for future service. You no longer need the flow check this way, the ZV does the job..0 -

OK.. BUT,
there is no space for me to cut into unless i take the plug out of the flow check.. can i follow your instr. if i come out of the flow check or should i cut a tee below the flow check.. i am not doing any work on the other return or feed because a tee with a plug is on the return that i am going to tap into.. also, the existing zone has a pump on the return, so if a add the new zone with a pump on the feed, would that foul up the system? thanks a lot0
