up pump pressure, lower nozzle size & combustion chamber

Raising the pump pressure to the CORRECT psi on a smaller nozzle will maintain the same flow rate but long and narrow or short and fat (bushy) flames are determined by the nozzle angle. Chamber, nozzle, burner, they should all coincide with each other or you can create problems.

Was reading beckets guide to oil heat and it says flame should fill combustion chamber w/o touching it. Wouldn't upping pump pressure and putting smaller nozzle on change the flame shape and not fit the chamber? Or is there room to play?0 -
pump pressure
Raising the pump pressure doess change the flame. It makes it shorter and fatter. It also changes the spray angle ie. raising pressure to 140 psig will change an 80 degree nozzle to approx 83 degrees, so you do need to be mindful of chamber design, or you could impinge. Hope this helps a little.0
