History of the BTU

Hello all, I am looking for anecdotel information on the History of the BTU. Google search is giving me nothing. I want to gather that info and use it in some presentations I am doing in the future.

Specifically looking for the year and names of the participants which gave it the moniker BTU.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,
PR

Click "The Library" on this site.

    Click Very Old Stuff

Look for the article titled, The Origin of the British Thermal Unit.

    Once upon a time

during a dark and stormy night, this English feller said, "What I need is some good old fashioned British Thermal Underwear". His equally cold friend, a clothing manufacturer, responded, "What a great idea, we can call them BTU's". And so BTU's became known throughout the empire as providing heat where most needed. But the name was changed to BVD when the 13 colonies were invented. This was "Boston VD" and came about when someone at a big tea party invented SOX.

However in the plumbing trade, resistant to new ideas, tradesmen still referred to the heat required to keep warm as BTU's. So there you have it, a bit of thermodynamic history.

Have noticed that some things in "The Library" don't come up with a click.

If that happens, RIGHT click and select "Save Target As" then rename the file and save it to your desired location.
