My guys are installing multi core tubing for the first time and are having some difficulties. What kind of tubing uncoiler do you use? Do you use a tube bender? What little tricks of the trade do you guys use?

Multicore
John,I'm guessing your useing wirsbo? Their multicore doesn't fit on their decoiler (whats up with that Wirsbo)
We have another decoiler that we use.
I also have a tubing bender for making nice tight bends. It's a ratchiting one that Wirsbo sells.
The best advancement has been the new crimp fittings for
multicore.A big labor and cost savings over the old compression type.
What size tubing are you working with? The bigger diameters are a bit difficult to work with but the smaller 1/2" stuff is easy.0 -
Snow Melt
John,
We are doing a snow melt job. 5/8ths tube size. Do you have a decoiler that will fit 1000ft rolls of 5/8 Wirsbo Multi Core? What brand and model is it?

uncoiler
I just did a small bath area with 1/2" Multicor and used the older (horizontal) version of the Wirsbo uncoiler. While it was not as 'easy' as standard pex, it was do-able.
Using 5/8" Multicore? I don't know about that.

We are using it now.................
Fred and Jim are using that right now, but they are complaining that the extra pulling power of multicore is tearing the uncoiler apart. They screwed it down and modified it for this job but I need a new uncoiler, and one capable of 5/8 multicore 1000 footers.

Please let us kow when you find out what uncoiler works, as I am imterested too..
So far I have been just using wirsbo multicor for just baseboard loops and other hydronic shorter piping, or areas where we have not needed the uncoiler with our shorter lengths. We are still using the hepex for all of our radiant floors. I don't think we coudl do the installs as fast with multicor.

Uncoilers
Both Viega and Heatlink make heavy-duty uncoilers
