Boiler won't shut off on high preassure

My 10 yr old Burnham boiler is not shutting off on "high preassure". I've had the pigtails cleaned, the preassure troll tested (it works) and the preassure gauge reads 5.10.
Questions....
1) What might be the problem (I welcome innovative answers on this one)?
2) How much is this costing me annualy?

    You would be wise to have a proffessional check out the control wiring on your boiler.High limit failures are not safe.

    The boiler psi in a home should only be about 1 psi
    Turn the screw counter clock wise until its all the way down to .05 and then the differencial dial at 1

    I'm having the same issue

    I'm having the same issue with my 10 yo Burnham boiler as well. The pressurtrol is set to cut in at .5 and a diff of 1. Yet, I noticed yesterday while the system was on, that the pressure gauge was reading 5 PSI.

    The gas company came out in August and gave the system a "tuneup", and I was told that all the controls were in working order. Is this a dangerous thing?

    Are you guys using the PA404 pressuretrol? I went through two of those and found that they won't work at low enough pressures for my needs. Just because 0.5psi is stamped on the dial doesn't mean it'll work; even bottomed out, I couldn't get it to cut out lower than about 3 pounds. Got an L408 vaporstat and the control is amazing, I'm now running at 8-12oz with room to crank it down even more. Kept a PA404 as a paperweight.

    If you want accurate control, the vaporstat is the way to go. Most steam vents won't even work above 2 psi, so you would be pumping amazing amounts of energy up your chimney. Install a vaporstat and " crank it down". It will pay for itself in saved energy.
