TRV Valve

I'm a homeowner. Everyone I know uses Danfoss, they're the industry standard. You can get Danfoss TRVs with threads up to 1-1/2in. If you are confident of yout plumbing skills, and know how to drain and refill your system, you should be able to change the valves yourself. TRVs are definitely worth getting. Make sure you install them horizontally.

TRV for Gravity Hot Water System
I am a homeowner who would like to replace some radiator valves with TRVs so that we can achieve better heat control in certain rooms. We have a gravity hot water system with a circulation pump. I have done some research into various valve manufacturers and obtained some literature on the Myson TRV II. What is unclear to me is whether a TRV II valve will fit on the various radiators that we have since the feed pipes vary greatly in diamater -- from 1/2" to over 1 1/2". From reviewing the literature provided by Myson, I got the impression that the valves comes with a standard diameter thread size. If this is the case, can the valve still be installed and if so how? If a reducer is necessary, will this adversely effect the efficiency of he radiator? Any recommendation about other TRV manufacturers? Is the installation of such a valve something that a relatively, handy, fairly experienced homeowner can attempt? Any assistance and/or input would be greatly appreciated.0 -
If they're made for the American market there shouldn't be any problem. I know that Danfoss was a perfect fit.
1½" and larger may be a problem as I believe most stop at 1¼". In that case, you'll need to size down the branch. Unless that radiator is WAY BEYOND GIANT there won't be any flow problem with a 1¼" TRV!0 -
Danfoss
Danfoss produces valves ranging from 1/2" to 1 1/4".
We have various styles of operators as well depending upon your applicaiton. You may visit our website @ www.danfossheating.com for more product details.
Depending upon the age of your house you may want to have a professional do the work. They will have the tools required with them.
Good luck!
