Taco 007-IFC

We're using both & both have the IFC. No problems to date. The Grundfoss models are three-speed, which gives us a bit of flexability for matching pump curves.

    Taco 007-IFC

Has anyone used this model circulator with the removable integral flow check valve? How does it compare to using a standard 007 with a separate check valve?

    used both taco's and grunfoss

the taco with the check on the inlet with have a lower NetPositiveSuctionHead - not usually a problem unless you have very hi-temp water that might flash into steam upon a little pressure drop in the eye of the pump

the Grundfos has of course 3 speeds and can replace 3 to 4 different models of taco, and the flow check is easily removable/serviceable - but will be a little more prone to noise - since for spring check quietness, you are supposed to have 12pipe diameters preceding a discharge spring check to get quiet laminar flow through it

    recommend both

The 007-IFCs love to get airbound on start up and the days proceeding. This has happened on both occassions that I have used them. Taco recommends "breaking" the discharge flange to bleed the pumps. Seemed to work after the 3 call backs, and some endless bleeding. I don't think my Vortex even had a chance to do any thing for me.
  • Sparky , were these circulators

on the return ? I haven't had a purging problem from the 30 or 40 we have installed so far , on the supply side .

    air bound 007ifc's

Ron, we've had the 007ifc get air bound. It was the primary circ in a primary/ secondary system. The secondary circs were all 007ifc as well. Everything was of course pumping away. We ended up having to "crack" the flange on the primary circ to purge it.

Is an IFC style circ needed on the primary for this type of system ?

I've been loving the IFCs , at least the few we can get our hands on . The only issue I think can give us trouble is when there is a sweat leak past the circ , and you just can't spin open the flowvalve top to let that water back down . Hasn't happened yet , but it will .

I don't suppose the ifc is necessary on the primary. However, it's what was there and it was air bound. We've installed dozens to date pumping away and had no problems.

    IFC's

They are like babies. You must burp them, or suffer through the hours of relentless fussiness. I don't belive in installing such, on the primary, as in P/S..Robert O'Connor/NJ

    I'm a believer

I'm liking the 0011IFC on the primary with the NTI Trinity boilers. Where we are setting up for primary plus indirect we use a pair of them with no extra check valves required. When you are purging the air out in a fresh system purge through the circulator and the startup will be seamless. Enjoy.....Dan

The first time we used them, the checks were not seated correctly and caused the pumps to SCREAM!!!!!!!!!!

I figured it out eventually and seated the checks and the pumps were silent. Been that way ever since.

I can't believe that people are still using external flo check devices.

i had the problem with the GFOS 15-58fc...

a drop of dirt on the springcheck cone caused it to chatter like crazy -

nevertheless pumps with built in springchecks, and ballvalves valves with builtin springchecks, are a good thing, since they eat up less energy than a seperate cast iron flowchecks, and stop convection,

there is almost never enough springchecks in a system, especielly on indirect domestic hot water, without springchecks on both sides, the heat walks right up into the house, really cooks them with radiant in the summer time
