Vent-Rite or Hoffman ?

The mains are vented in the basement, and the system works pretty well. There was a point along one return where an improperly pitched rad take off was causing water hammer (has been fixed this year).
That point was in the basement and twenty feet down (horizontally & another 50-60 feet away vertically) from where the riser vent had gone bad. Is the water hammer the culprit? I am not sure it could be.
I guess my question should really be: how long are the riser vents expected to last in an average system and which brand is known to be best?

Vent-Rite or Hoffman ?
I have Vent-Rite #77 and #35 riser vents (top floor, before the radiator valves). Also have Vent-Rite #11 vents on the ends of each radiator. They were all installed two years ago. This season, I discovered that one of the #77 and one #11 had gone bad (not letting out air when cold). Is this too soon? The boiler is clean and the system is fairly healthy. I am wondering if I should consider switching to Hoffman. Can Vent-Rite and Hoffman coexist on the same system (in terms of the drop away pressure) ?0 -
You can use either brand
I've had good results with both. My question would be, why did they fail so soon? Are the steam mains in the basement properly vented? We may have posted about the mains before but I can't remember.... long day.....

In a properly operating system
the vents should last for years. But the water hammer you had could very well have shortened their life.
