Mike T - just came back from Ciphex West in Calgary. Had a very long chat with the Stelrad sales rep. They are marketing a nifty modulating TRV for their rad - in and out! The rad is sized for a partial heat load - the downstream TRV then reduces outlet temp so that it can be used for the radiant under the floor. Now this sounds very workable and with the constant circ mains & the vitodens on the wall a very efficient system. One high temp circuit, TRVs tempering the radiant to individual room requirements - without the $4000 control package and manifolds. I think I might being doing a retro in my home! Knowing your fondness for TRV's - you might want to have a look at their wares.

    Thanks Glen!

That does sound interesting. Is their rad required or can their valve be used on standing iron or an old iron panel rad?

Do they have a nice non-convection enhanced panel that would be good for a kitchen island? e.g. sturdy as hell to resist the certain knocking/hitting/banging?

That might be the solution for my kitchen to keep everything in the "super-simple" one-temperature philosophy...

Technically - as long as the rad is sized correctly to achieve the correct delta T to then supply the radiant loop - brand X rad would work. It is the modulating TRV's that are key. Here's their url - www.stelradcanada.com

The catalogue is online - but you may what to email directly.
