I am being tasked to change out a hundred or so 1-1/2" checkvalves that are installed between condensate receivers and the low pressure steam boilers. Originally the installing contractor of this mass system used bronze disc swing checks, after two years, they're all failing. I suggested that we give a teflon disc swing check a go, but today I was told by management, we will be installing a spring loaded pop-up check. I was handed one, and I quickly questioned the strength of the spring and was told it should lift off its seat @ 3 pounds. Won't these spring loaded checks add to the workout the condensate receiver pumps undergo, to feed the boilers properly? Will I find myself more quickly replacing pump motors and impellers? Will I find more boilers tripped out on "low water' condition? And I also have a concern about any scale or debris that could become lodged in such a spring loaded check (I was thinking a regular swing check might clean itself easier? You thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated! Thanks Joe

Show them how is DONE...
Yuo be better with teflon disc swing check I try them for yaers, and whoever sold the spring loaded pop-up check to the management is getting a fat wallet.0 -
I simply have never seen the spring loaded pop-up being used in such a way. If it doesn't have the potential for creating problems, I'm all for it....0 -
.
--i use the Watts # 600 for vertical and try to find teflon seated 45* checks for horizontal-the #600 -if the management is spec'ing the spring check try a few --the pressure drop is the same as a swing check--also the spring rod,and spring are stainless -you should check with Watts --for your application--type and temperature of water, chemicals, length of piping, gpm of your pumps--pressure at the boilers0 -

You better
have good Y strainers ahead of those spring checks. They are especially vulnerable to fouling if your condensate isn't clean0
