MZ 25S Relief valve(s)?

Visitor
Visitor Member Posts: 2
Baltimore City and National Standard Plumbing Codes require temperature and pressure relief valves (TPRV)for hot water heaters and boilers. The MZ25S is equipped with a TPRV but it is not ASTM rated. The MZ instructions indicate a pressure relief on each of the pipes. Can this boiler be installed without either an additional pressure relief valve or a temperature presure relief valve under the Codes? If not, can it be installed with just a pressure relief valve on the hydronic circuit? Or, do the Codes require a pressure relief valve on both? Or, must it have a temperature and pressure valve(s)?

If MZ instructions stated to install TPR valve on both line , put it in , even if local codes states just one. Don't redesign a system . If you do and God forbid something happens , it's your baby...

We are getting conflicting advice form various interested parties. I wanted to know what the codes said.

defer to the manufacturer. If the manufacturer recommends 2 widgits, there'd better be to widgits on it or the inspector CAN turn you down.

THere is generally a reason for them asking for two, and it's not always obvious to the plumber.

Follow the makers instructions to avoid trouble/liability.
