Tekmar Zone Control and Weil-McLain Ultra

Has anyone installed Tekmar zone controls with a Weil-McLain ultra boiler? I understand the Ultra has outdoor reset built-in. Can the 2 interface with each other?

What are you tryig to do????

You can use the Tekmar to just operate the zone controls and provide a on/off signal to the boiler and allow the boiler to modulate and control the water temp. according to outdoor temps.... or you can... and this is neccessary if you want to run multiple boilers from say a Tekmar 265.... then you must order the AM-4 kit from WM to interface the Tekar and the Ultra's. I have a couple of multiple boiler setups with Am-4 kits and they work very well. I imagine that you could use the AM-4 and use any of the Tekmar's to interface and take over control of the boiler, but it would not be needed. Any Tekmar control that you would use has to be capable of providing the modulating 0-10vdc output.

I have also gotten help from Steve Stultz at WM....

    Yes, but...

    Brian,

a tekmar Zone Control (369, 368, 367) offers many different features and functions that you can not find in a number of other Zone Controls available in the market. Some of those include, but are not limited to, Zone Load Coordination, Pulse With Modulation for Zones based on a Cycle Length, built in Night Setback, Optimum Start for Setback recovery and Equipment Exercising if it hasn't been used in 72 hours (adjustable in the 369), as well as Indoor Temperature Feedback that is used to fine tune the Water Temperature delivered from a Reset Control based on Indoor Temperature condition as well.

If you were to tie a tekmar Zone Control to any other Reset Control, you would lose only one of those featuyres mentioned above and that would be the Indoor Temnperature Feedback. All other benefits you would still have. The connection between the two different types of Controls would then not be through communication as you would find between a tekmar Reset and Zone Control, but it would be through typical connection that you will have if you used a Taco, Argo, Erie, Honeywell or anybody elses Zone Control.

I hope this all makes sense and helps you out. If not, please never hesitate to contact tekmar Controls directly at 250-545-7749 or visit online at www.tekmarcontrols.com.

    Best Regards,

    Mike

    Floyd...

...thanks for looking into this. Please read below (Yes, but...)....

The 265 or the 263 (only two modulating Boiler Controls tekmar has) do not have a communication input from a tekmar Zone Control. So it would give him the same features as mentioned below if used in conjunction with the Ultra Reset Control in a single boiler installation...

oops,,,sorry for the previously messed up email..sleeptyping

the jist of our conversation was, that WM is in the boiler business and TEKMAR was in the control/energy mngmnt business – so at the end of the day WM has to play ball with tekmar - or invest the huge resources to needed to compete - not happening - so they will play ball, but it will take some arm twisting from us wetheads

also i suggested that WM manufacture or oem an auto_ph_balanced water feeder for their boilers that measures inlet water’s ph and adds in as much ph balancer as needed, the pool people already have it, why not us – and with the amount of people making boilers with aluminum HX’s there is a growing market
