I'm trying to learn about pulse width modulation in regaurds to thermostats. I've seen it mentioned in Tekmar literature, but I don't fully understand it and how it works in relation to non-electric type zone valves.

If you're talking about two-way proportional valves like TRVs, they are completely self-contained. No need for ANY wall thermostat in a TRVd system if you use them at EVERY emission device.
