Weil McLain factory Transformers

Today marked my 8th out 20 new boiler installations where a call back came in that the Weil Mclain factory packaged transformer burned/ shorted out with-in a month of installation. Has anyone else had problems with these transformers failing on these most recently new packaged boilers?(CGa's and EG models)

    nope.

I would bet that you have multiple transformers "bucking" each other. If you put a meter across your control's terminals and get more than 27 or 28 volts, you need to isolate, or phase your transformers. I have been doing this stuff for a long time, and I have changed maybe two transformers that died an honest death. Everything else can be laid at that feet of failure to correctly wire zone valves, and other controls.

get to Radio Shack, and buy a bunch of $3.00 3-amp circuit breakers. If the breakers trip, it aint the transformer's fault.

You may want to call Weil however. Ocasionally, one of their vendors may produce a bad batch of wiring harnesses. The circuit-breaker is still great protection however.

    So far so good

I have been installing CGA boilers and Peg boilers on an everday basis in residential houses with no failed transformers to date. I also use taco zone control panels for more then 2 zone valves for simplified wiring.

    WM Transformers..

We got some about 2-3 years ago that came through with reverse polarity. We began checking polarity on new installs right after that but haven't had a bad one since..Robert O'Connor/NJ

the circiut breakers are nice but two insuladed spade termanials and a 3 amp auto style works great lot cheaper too
